ACADEMIC RESEARCH

The Centre for Early Medieval Studies is involved in a number of national and European projects that cover a wide range of topics, from the contribution of Russian emigrants to Czechoslovak interwar scholarship through the baptismal ritual in Late Antiquity and its material and cultural background to the cultural exchanges in the South Caucasus and the study of medieval sites of pilgrimage and their role in European culture. The common denominator of all these research activities is the emphasis on interdisciplinary and intercultural contexts, as well as the effort to re-examine the distorted cultural and social narratives of the past.
