ZNOJMO
From a Roman Military Camp to a Historic City

September 2013

Znojmo, as a historical place, is a medieval city at its core and offers the medievalist art historian several topics on which to discuss whether the traditionally established views, theories and methods are still acceptable. The seminar, led by Klára Benešovská, focuses on the role this place held within the "Great Moravian Empire", the importance of the Znojmo principality and the way of representing the Moravian branch of the Přemyslids, the beginnings of the Gothic city and its layout and equipment, the importance and functioning of medieval church institutions in the city and its surroundings, changes to the structure of the city and, last but not least, the protection and preservation of this medieval heritage today.
